During the official launch, in conjunction with obtaining our liquor licence where you can experience traditional African beers and wine, whilst enjoying a traditional Eritrean coffee ceremony, live African music and dance.
We would like to introduce to our customers our new cook, Ms Gertrude Lombato from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This talented woman was born in the north east city of Mbandaka in the province of Équateur.
Gertrude came to Australia in 2010 with her 2 year old son after fleeing the civil war in her country. She fled along with her Auntie and cousins to a refugee camp in Cameroon and finally settled into Australia. She brings fresh and authentic dishes of Africa to the already unique tastes at Mu'ooz.
In the five years since inception, Mu'ooz has provided training, work experience and employment to more than 68 disadvantaged refugee women. The not- for- profit social enterprise also provides cultural awareness to high school students to educate them about the experience of refugees in Australia.
